Museums

The State Hermitage

Five historical buildings, including Winter Palace – the residence of Russian tsars, make the basis of the museum complex. The Hermitage keeps about 3 mln monuments of culture and art of the European and Oriental peoples, from high antiquity till nowadays.

Peter and Paul's Fortress

Peter & Paul Fortress was founded in 1703 by Peter the First.

Savior on the Blood Church

Savior on the Blood Church was completed in 1907 as a memorial to the Russian emperor Alexander II.

St. Isaac's Cathedral

St. Isaac's Cathedral is still the largest cathedral in the city, able to accommodate about 10 thousands people. The observation platform on the colonnade provides a magnificent view of the city.

Peterhoff, Grand Palace

Hundreds of fountains and golden statues surround Peter’s Palace in Peterhoff. The palace itself was finally built in 1724.

Pushkin, Catherine Palace

The Cabin of Peter the Great

Cabin of Peter the Great is the first building in St Petersburg. The exhibition of the museum includes personal belongings of Peter the Great.

Russian Museum has the largest in the country collection of Russian art, from ancient icons to the avant-garde painting of the XX century.

Theatres

Mariinsky Theatre

The home of Russian ballet and opera since the 1860s, the Mariinsky Theatre is a cultural leader and one of the most marvelous and beautiful theatres in the world.

Alexandrinsky Theatre

Italian architect Carlo Rossi designed Alexandrinsky drama theatre which was built between 1828-1832. It is named after the wife of Tsar Nicholas I, Aleksandra Fyodorovna.

Imperial Hermitage Theatre

This small, richly decorated theatre is the oldest part of the Hermitage. It was once Catherine the Great's private theatre, and now Imperial Hermitage Theatre is used for ballet and concert performances.

Folk Shows

Mostly every day a folklore show is held on the stage of Nikolaevsky Palace.
